Google (in Hebrew: גוגל) is a multinational technology company and the leading global search engine.
Google is an American multinational technology company specializing in online advertising, search engine technology, cloud computing, computer software, and quantum technology. It was founded on September 4, 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were PhD students at Stanford University.
The company's breakthrough was built upon the PageRank algorithm, which fundamentally improved web search by analyzing relationships and link structures across websites. Today, Google processes over 8.5 billion search queries per day, commanding a global web search market share exceeding 90%.
Beyond its flagship search engine, Google developed a vast digital ecosystem including Gmail email services, Google Maps navigation, Google Chrome web browsing, Google Drive cloud storage, and the YouTube video sharing platform acquired in 2006.
In 2015, Google restructured to become a wholly owned subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. (Alphabet), uniting Google's internet services with speculative subsidiaries such as Waymo (autonomous vehicles), Verily (life sciences), and Google DeepMind (artificial intelligence).
Today, Google leads the generative AI revolution through its Gemini multimodal model family, AI Overviews integrated directly into search results, and advanced cloud infrastructure.
