Pepper (in Hebrew: פלפל) The bell pepper (Capsicum annuum) is the fruit of plants in the Grossum cultivar group of the species Capsicum annuum, eaten as a vegetable.
Bell peppers are native to Mexico, Central America, and northern South America, and were introduced to Europe in 1493.
Unlike other Capsicum species, bell peppers do not produce capsaicin in amounts that cause burning sensations.
They are an excellent source of vitamin C, vitamin A, and antioxidants such as capsanthin.
